Don't Be a pawn
The direction of this project was to design and make a skateboard in collaboration with a musician (conceptually). I was inspired by Joey Badass's politically charged lyrics and the idea of turning a skateboard into a protest sign. By taking the phrase "don't be a pawn" from his song "FOR MY PEOPLE", and designing hand drawn typography that acts as signage, these boards become multifunctional. A pawn is seen as the weakest and most common player in chess, so this phrase suggest that you should take a stand for something and not be silent. This video shows the process and use of materials I used to design custom boards. This method of craft involves materials like, Japanese Kozo inkjet paper, water, wheat paste, and finisher.
